The organizations grouped in the so-called Piquetera Unit (UP) and other social groups mobilize this Thursday towards the headquarters of the Ministry of Social Development, in downtown Buenos Aires, within the framework of a day of protest that was ratified despite the meeting that leaders of these organizations held on Wednesday with the head of that portfolio, Victoria Tolosa Paz.

From 10 o’clock, the groups that make up this space mobilize in three key points of downtown Buenos Aires: the Obelisk, the Ministry of Social Development and the National Congress.

The organizations that call this protest demand the “universal opening of programs for all those who need it” and the granting of quotas for “genuine work in public works”, among other demands.

The call was announced in a statement signed by the Polo Obrero (PO), MTR We Vote to Fight, CUBA-MTR, May 29 Movement, Arming Conscience Group, April 12 MTR, November 17 Organization, Free-Standing Neighborhoods del Sur, the MST Teresa Vive and the National Piquetero Bloc.

Also joining what they call a “national strike” are the Rebel MTL, the Resistance Front, the Coordinator for Social Change, fractions of the Front of Organizations in Struggle (FOL) and the Darío Santillán Popular Front (FPDS), and FAR Marabunta, among others.

On Wednesday, the minister received the leaders of Unidad Piquetera (UP) to analyze the claims of that organization.

“During the meeting we defined the most important points, we discussed the scope and regulatory issues of both Decree 728 and Decree 551 of “Bridge to Employment” -which comes in handy in the textile and footwear industry- because we want to continue promoting the inclusion of sectors of the popular economy to registered work,” Tolosa Paz said at a press conference on Wednesday in his portfolio.

Regarding the possibility of camping for social organizations announced for this Thursday, the minister considered that “camping is far from what I want for these families.”

“We have to regularize the situation of lack of supply of essential products; it is part of what we are doing, generating agreements with vast sectors of family farming”Victoria Tolosa Paz

Meanwhile, one of the leaders of the UP and the Polo Obrero, Eduardo Belliboni, assured that a decision has not yet been made regarding this aspect of the protest.

Regarding one of the claims of the sector, linked to the delay in the delivery and quality of food, Tolosa Paz assured that it is “working to expand the supply of products.”

“We have to regularize the situation of lack of supply of essential products; it is part of what we are doing, generating agreements with vast sectors of family farming to work very hard with nutritional quality”expanded the official.

In addition, the minister recalled that “when there were discontinuities in the delivery, there was always compensation later” and that currently “they are working on the delivery of food in November and December so that it reaches each of the homes.”

Meanwhile, Belliboni announced to the press after the meeting that the organizations decided to ratify “the mobilization throughout the country, as defined.”
