MADRID, Spain.- The United States Embassy in Havana sent its congratulations to Cuban baseball players Yordan Álvarez, Yulieski Gourriel and Aledmys Díaz, for the recent victory of the Houston Astros in the 2022 World Series.

We celebrate this result of great sportsmanship, achieved by the combined excellence of players from all over the world”, said the consular headquarters through the social network Twitter.

On November 5, the Houston Astros won their second World Series title after defeating the Philadelphia Phillies in four of six games.
The performance of the Caribbean during the tournament was decisive for the Astros; so much so that it was Yordan Álvarez who decided the final match with a mammoth home run at 450 feet.
This victory also represented the first time that three Cuban players have won the October Classic with the same team.
In the case of Yordan and Aledmys, they won their first World Series after two previous failed attempts (2019 and 2021), while Gourriel —out of the decisive game due to injury— won his second ring.
After the victory of the Astros, thousands of people took to the streets of Houston, dressed in the colors of the team, to celebrate the title of the 2022 World Series of the Major Leagues.
In the celebration parade, images of Aledmys Díaz carrying a banner that read “Homeland and Life” emerged.
For his part, Yulieski Gourriel also shared images through their social networks of the emotional celebration.
