Appearing before the United Health and Social Security Commissions of the Senate of the Republic, Zoé Robledo explained that the financial reserves of the IMSS went from 278 billion pesos in 2019 to 401 billion pesos to date.
“And why does Social Security have these strong finances despite having faced the pandemic and despite the economic effects it had? The answer is simple: because of the Mexican-style welfare model implemented by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador: the moral economy,” said the IMSS director.
In front of senators and senators who, despite being an appearance, applauded the head of Social Security three times while he presented his report, Zoé Robledo explained that the increase in the minimum wage boosted the base salary of the IMSS contribution and the reform against of outsourcing It also helped the institute increase resources from worker-employer fees.
He added that, after facing the Covid-19 pandemic, the IMSS is “in recovery, growth and transformation.”
“I want to inform you that, in the case of the IMSS, since May 2021 we have not had any suspended services, transplants, cancer care, emergency surgical interventions or any other type of illness. We have not only reactivated our services, but, most importantly, we are in an effort every day to recover our productivity compared to 2019”, he indicated.
The general director of ISSSTE, Pedro Zenteno, also gave an account at the appearance, who reported that they are implementing three fundamental actions to improve the institute’s services.
The first is to review the staff to ensure the operation of hospitals in the evening shifts. The second action is to review the supply of medicines and healing material, and expand the health infrastructure, which, he argued, is insufficient.
“We are going to carry out, on the instructions of President López Obrador, six regional hospitals in Jalisco, Coahuila, Tamaulipas, Los Cabos, Baja California Sur, Palenque and Acapulco,” he promised before legislators who also applauded him.
