The volume of retail sales grew 1.1% from August to September this year. From July to August, the sector had changed by 0.1%. The data, from the Monthly Trade Survey (PMC), were released today (9) by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).
Retail also shows increases of 0.3% in the quarterly moving average, 3.2% compared to September 2021 and 0.8% in the year. In the 12-month period, however, the sector has dropped by 0.7%.
in the passage of August for September, six of the eight activities surveyed showed growth in the volume of sales: books, newspapers, magazines and stationery (2.5%), equipment and supplies for office, information technology and communication (1.7%), fuels and lubricants (1 .3%), hyper, supermarkets, food products, beverages and tobacco (1.2%), textiles, clothing and footwear (0.7%) and pharmaceutical, medical, orthopedic, and perfumery items (0.6%) .
Two activities, however, had a decrease in the volume of sales in the period: furniture and appliances (-0.1%) and other articles of personal and Sunaesthetic (-1%).
Nominal retail revenue increased by 0.2% compared to August, 13.7% compared to September last year, 15.5% in the year and 13.5% in the 12-month period.

Extended retail, which also includes construction materials and vehicles, rose 1.5% in September compared to the previous month. Vehicles and motorcycles, parts and pieces had a negative change of 0.1% and construction material remained stable.
Extended retail growth was also recorded in relation to September 2021 (1%). On the other hand, there were declines of 0.6% in the year and 1.6% in the 12-month period.
The expanded retail nominal revenue had highs of 1% compared to August, 11.9% compared to September last year, 14% in the year and 12.9% in the 12-month period.
