MAS deputy calls for the expulsion of Wálter Chávez, whom she links as an advisor to Camacho

The deputy of the Movement Towards Socialism, Estefanía Morales, announced that she will request the expulsion from the country of Walter Chavezidentified by her and other parliamentarians, as an adviser to Luis Fernando Camacho, governor of Santa Cruz.

According to Morales, Chavez’s political refugee status is affected by his work activities. “Sand is getting involved in matters of interest to the State; it has breached international refugee law,” she stated.

The regulations that regulate refugee status do not allow intervention in matters of State or internal politics of the country where they are.

Morales recalled that the political adviser is being investigated in Peru, his native country, for crimes of terrorism.

Before joining Camacho as an adviser, Chávez fulfilled a similar function with Evo Morales, in the first decade of the 2000s and the middle of the following decade. In 2007, during the cocalero’s mandate, when Peru requested his extradition, the Executive rejected the request alleging his status as a political refugee. Chavez was prosecuted in his country of origin for his alleged ties to the Túpac Amaru Revolutionary Movement (MRTA).

It is known that his differences with the brother of the then vice president, Álvaro García Linera, caused his removal from the MAS. In 2016, he was an advisor to Samuel Doria Medina during the referendum campaign in which Evo Morales was seeking a new re-nomination for the presidency.

Chávez arrived in Bolivia at the beginning of the 1990s, and worked as a journalist in some newspapers, before founding his own weekly. It would be during the government of Jaime Paz Zamora when he benefited from refugee status in order to remain in the country.

The alleged relationship between Camacho and Chávez caused the fracture of the party of the Governor of Santa Cruzwhich in recent days showed its parliamentarians and divided assemblymen and between accusations of treason. On previous occasions, when Camacho was questioned on the subject, he avoided confirming whether or not Chavez was his adviser.
