MIAMI, United States. – The Minister of Public Health of Cuba, José Ángel Portal Miranda, reported this Tuesday Three active cases of monkeypox or monkeypox are currently reported on the Island.
The three patients are hospitalized and isolated at the “Pedro Kourí” Institute of Tropical Medicine, he said.
The official also specified that so far eight cases of the disease have been confirmed on the island (five in Havana, two in Cienfuegos and one in Artemisa). Six of them have been men and two women, all adults.
The first case of monkeypox in Cuba was detected on August 20. It was a male patient, of Italian nationality, who had arrived as a tourist five days earlier and who finally passed away.
On July 23, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the monkeypox outbreak as a global emergency.
Monkeypox is a disease caused by a virus that goes by the same name: monkeypox. It is a zoonotic viral disease, which means it can be transmitted from animals to humans. It can also spread from person to person.

This Tuesday, the Cuban authorities also offered information on the situation of dengue and COVID-19 in the country.
According to Portal Miranda, at the end of October the transmission of COVID-19 decreased by 85.1 percent compared to September.
He also indicated that the incidence rate of suspected dengue cases in the country has decreased for six consecutive weeks.
