SANTO DOMINGO.- The Executive Power today issued decree 661-22, through which the Directorate of School Infrastructure is created with the aim of institutionally organizing the function of the Ministry of Education to set policies and standards in terms of architectural designs, remodeling and maintenance of buildings schools, in accordance with article 94 of Law 66-97 General Education and the rest of the applicable regulations.
In this sense, decree 625-12, which creates the National Program for School Buildings, attached to the Ministry of Public Works and Communications and made up of the dependencies of the Ministry of Public Works and Communications and the Office of Supervising Engineers of State Works, was repealed. November 10, 2012; as well as decree 348-16 that provides for the transfer to the Ministry of Public Works of the functions entrusted to the Office of Supervising Engineers of State Works related to the National School Building Program, dated December 2, 2016.
The provision establishes that the personnel assigned to the National Program for School Buildings, attached to the Ministry of Public Works and Communications. will go to the Directorate of
School Infrastructure of the Ministry of Education as of January 1, 2023.
Likewise, the Ministry of Education will coordinate with the Ministry of Public Administration the internal organization of the Directorate of School Infrastructure, as well as the transfer of the aforementioned
staff.
President Luis Abinader instructed the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Housing, Habitat and Buildings (MIVHED) to sign a collaboration agreement, within a maximum period of 30 days, from the date of publication of this decree, for the joint coordination of everything related to the design and construction of school buildings, in accordance with their respective organic laws.
