London, (EFE).- The United Kingdom is close to completing the delivery of around 1,000 surface-to-air missiles to the Ukrainian Army capable of intercepting drones and cruise missiles, the British Ministry of Defense reported today.
The new material, whose shipment was announced by London in October, responds to “requests by Ukraine to improve its air defense capabilities,” Defense detailed in a statement.
The surface-to-air missiles will play a “vital role” in the Ukrainian Army’s fight against the Russian invasion and will facilitate “infrastructure protection” in the country, he added.
British Defense Minister Ben Wallace, who today met with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, stressed that this material “will help Ukraine counter the illegal threat against its critical national infrastructure.”
Wallace and Stoltenberg visited the Lydd Army Camp training base in southeastern England, where the UK has so far trained more than 7,400 Ukrainian soldiers.
Currently, 1,900 members of the Ukrainian Armed Forces continue to train at the British base before joining the battlefront in their country.
The United Kingdom has also announced that it plans to deliver 25,000 kits prepared to withstand this winter’s “extreme cold” in Ukraine, 20,000 sleeping bags and 150 thermally insulated tents.
