2023 calendar of holidays in Uruguay: when does Carnival fall, Tourism and other dates

Find out when carnival falls, Tourism Week and all the holidays of the next year in Uruguay.

There are three working holidays in Uruguay that run for the previous Monday in case they fall between Tuesday and Friday, to generate long weekends and promote tourism: April 19 (Desembarco de los Treinta y Tres Orientales), May 18 (Battle of Las Piedras) and October 12 (Day of race).

The intention of President Luis Lacalle Pou is that the holidays do not run, since their reason for being is not touristic.

Nevertheless For that to happen, it must be modified by law.. The Executive sent a project to Parliament, but as of September 2021 it has not yet been treated. Huntil it is done, those three holidays will continue to run.

The date is not yet defined July holidays and September holidays 2023. The education authorities will define it in November of this year, along with the rest of the school and high school calendar. Nor is it defined start of classes, although historically they have started on March 1 except when it is not working, either because it is a weekend, Carnival holiday or change of presidential command.
