Colombia announces its “Fair Energy Transition” plan at COP27

“We must overcome our own history, strongly dependent on the economy of hydrocarbons and coal. The planning of the Just Energy Transition is fundamental for Colombia because it implies a transition towards a productive economy, which has renewable energies as a pillar,” explained the minister. during the COP27.

The strategy of the government of the president, Gustavo Petro, will be “different because it prioritizes the social approach, allowing the participation, as co-owners, of the communities and users in the new projects,” added Vélez, and to integrate the communities, weekly social dialogues in the regions until the end of the year.

This plan is made up of several stages, the first being the “construction of principles, methodology and launch of the Social Dialogue to define the Roadmap for the Fair Energy Transition in Colombia”, which will include an analysis of the path traveled in the country so far in this matter.

Subsequently, specific long-term goals and the time to meet them will be established, as well as the specific actions to achieve this objective.

Vélez anticipated that a planning stage that will last six months is also contemplated to address issues such as labor qualification of workers associated with the mining-energy sector, productive transition and improvement of the quality of life in the territories with ethnic and gender approaches through of increasing energy equity.
