SANTO DOMINGO.- The Minister of Public Health Daniel Rivera supervised the services provided in medical assistance to the population affected by the heavy downpours last Friday in the Cañada la 800 and La Arenita, belonging to the Los Ríos and La Puya de Arroyo Hondo sectors in the National District.
A mobile hospital was installed in the place where general consultation was carried out and medicines and other supplies were delivered.
This Monday, Dr. Daniel Rivera toured the area and verified the needs in the area of health and social assistance, where the services required to assist the dozens of impacted families are provided. The actions also extend to the 800 ravine in the Los Ríos sector.
The official explained that the main thing is to prevent the emergence of diseases such as leptospirosis because contact with dirty water is a risk factor, as well as other diseases that should be avoided.
“Now comes prevention to avoid outbreaks. The rats were everywhere, their excrement and urine produce leptospirosis. That is, that is the basic strategy, there are 3 other diseases such as pyoderma, dengue and gastroenteritis. This is what we want to avoid, that timely attention be given to these people, together with the social assistance that the different state institutions are providing that are covering the needs demanded by the families that were affected,” he pointed out.
The also president of the Health Cabinet explained that in this action the eight Health Areas, nurses, specialized medical personnel of the National Health Service (SNS) and the Doctor Ramón de Lara Hospital interact. The health services offered in the facilities of a tent that serves as a medical hospital and include: mental health, general medicine, pediatrics, cardiology, dermatology, among others. In the same way, it was used to apply different vaccines, such as influenza and Covid-19.
Likewise, medicines are delivered such as: Doxycycline, of which it has enough, which serves to prevent Leptospirosis, as well as medicines for diarrheal episodes, flu, skin conditions, to those who lost their treatment for diabetes, hypertension, we are supplying it, while supplying a kit with hygiene products and chlorine to treat the water.
In addition to the work of health services, the different mayors carry out cleaning of the areas. The Minister of Health said that starting this afternoon and tomorrow they will carry out fumigation actions in all the affected areas.
Likewise, Dr. Daniel Rivera said that it is too early to identify any disease, but that it is in the Government’s interest that all people be treated, even if it is necessary to go house to house, to assist those who cannot fend for themselves. themselves.
The intervention tasks are coordinated by the Risk Management Directorate headed by Dr. Gina Estrella, with the support of the other MISPAS instances.
