The president of the Banco de Previsión Social (BPS), Alfredo Cabrera, participated this Tuesday, the 8th, in the ceremony to launch the stamp in commemoration of the 55th anniversary. anniversary of the organization and 30 years of social representations in the directory. In addition, he inaugurated an exhibition open to the public on the history of the BPS, through objects and representative images.
The activity, held at the central headquarters of the pension agency, was also attended by the vice president, Daniel Graffigna and members of the board, together with the president and vice president of the Uruguayan Post, Rafael Navarrine and Julio Silveira respectively.
This year marks the 30th anniversary of the social representations in the directory and the 55th. anniversary of the BPS, for which “we made an agreement with the Uruguayan Post Office by which we issued a stamp commemorating both dates,” Cabrera said, in dialogue with the Presidential Communication.
In this context, an exhibition open to the public was also inaugurated, located in the hall of the institution, in which the history of the BPS is reviewed through images and representative moments. “From the old typewriters to the smart terminals that today try to make things easier for our users,” he said.
In addition, he argued that social security is a State policy and that Uruguay has great importance in this matter. “We are starting a process of discussing social security reform and we think it is very good to remember where we come from to know where we are going,” she said.
In that sense, he pointed out that the most important challenge facing the Uruguayan social security system is sustainability. The birth rate is low and life expectancy is very high in the country. “There is a demographic problem that social security has to face and that is why the reform was proposed,” he concluded.
The president of the Uruguayan Post, meanwhile, highlighted the issuance of postage stamps and neonatal screening to detect diseases, as some of the main tasks carried out by that institution.
Navarrine recalled that October marked the 186th anniversary of the issuance of the first postage stamp in our country. “It was called the diligence because it was used for the postage of correspondence in that means of communication,” he indicated. Philately is an activity in which important events in the life of peoples are recorded on a small postage stamp. “It is without a doubt a bridge between the past and the future,” he concluded.
