For Nelson Cruz, November promises a lot when it comes to the Dominican team that will be competing in the 2023 World Baseball Classic.
“November will be interesting, more than anyone can think,” said Cruz, general manager of the squad, in a statement to the press department of the Dominican Baseball Federation (Fedobe), the entity responsible for the team that from March next year will defend the national colors in the important event.
“As they say popularly, even if you don’t listen to us, we are working with you. We made some publications of the boys who are eager to play, but you have to understand that there are deadlines for everything and now in this month of November the Clásico is heating up”, he added.
Players such as Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Manny Machado, Rafael Devers, Teoscar Hernández and Sandy Alcántara, among others, sent their videos to Fedobe and the images were circulated on social networks. But there is more in the pipeline. “Don’t despair, you will soon see more of our stars declaring that they are going for everything with the Dominican Republic,” Cruz said.
Nelson recently paid a courtesy visit to the president of the Dominican Republic, Luis Abinader, who was very comfortable and confident in the role that the national team will play.
“We exchanged views on various issues with the president. He is very interested in everything that is the Clásico and our team. We have all the support of him, ”he indicated. On his side, Juan Núñez Nepomuceno, president of Fedobe, indicated: “We already have a manager and leader in the person of Rodney Linares. The coaches will be announced soon, we have scheduled special activities in the country with our players, in short, things get good from here on out”.
The unbeaten champions of the 2013 Clásico will be in their fifth visit to the competition, and are part of Group D along with Puerto Rico, Venezuela, Israel and Nicaragua.
