Intendances and municipalities will receive funds to develop youth-oriented projects

The Planning and Budget Office (OPP) and the National Youth Institute (INJU) opened a call for departmental and municipal governments to present proposals that promote the participation of young people in management.

A fund of more than 19,000,000 pesos will finance 19 mayoral projects and another 50 municipalities, in cultural, sports and rural areas, informed the authorities.

The coordinator of the Decentralization and Cohesion Area of the OPP, María de Lima, and the director of the INJU, Felipe Paullier, explained this Monday the 7th the scope of the proposal.

The objective is to promote the development of initiatives aimed at young people throughout the country and contribute with technical support and financing, through a call for projects. In this way, city halls and municipalities are encouraged to present “projects that help young people integrate into society. That they work closely, in a decentralized way”, explained De Lima.

In the case of departmental governments, up to 19 initiatives will be financed for an amount of up to 400,000 pesos each, and a consideration of 100,000 pesos will be required. In addition, 50 municipal government initiatives will be financed for up to 240,000 pesos each, with a required consideration of 50,000 pesos.

The call will finance three types of proposals. On the one hand, cultural projects, such as the creation of events, workshops and festivals related to local culture. Second, initiatives aimed at supporting young people in rural areas through proposals that contain access to services, training or goods that improve their well-being. Sports projects will also be supported, such as events in sports squares, neighborhood spaces or clubs.

In particular, ideas that promote the articulation or the generation of alliances between organizations of the public sector and the private sector will be valued. Also those that involve private sponsors that enhance the scope and sustainability of the proposals.

The initiative is the result of the coordinated work carried out by the INJU with OPP and other levels of government to stimulate the participation and development of activities for young people, explained Paullier.

“The fund is the result of listening to local actors. We focused on generating cooperation between the different levels of government. We are convinced that it is the path to true decentralization”, she sentenced.
