The trial of pastor and former deputy Flordelis dos Santos de Souza, accused of the death of her husband, Pastor Anderson do Carmo, may extend until next Saturday (12). The estimate is from the assistant to the prosecution, lawyer Ângelo Máximo, who represents the victim’s family, during the second day of the trial, this Tuesday (8).
He stated that he does not intend to dismiss any of his witnesses and believes that the same should happen with the defense of the former deputy, who is being tried with three children and a granddaughter, at the Niterói Forum, under the presidency of Judge Nearis Arce.
In total, there are 30 witnesses to be heard, in addition to the individual interrogations of the five defendants, which precede the final speeches of the prosecution and defense, before the decision of the seven jurors, who remain incommunicado, staying in a hotel and without access to a telephone. .
Among the reasons for the delay in the work is the time taken for each statement. On the first day, only delegate Bárbara Lomba, who acted in the first phase of the investigation, spoke for more than four hours. On the second day, the depositions are equally lengthy, with witnesses being questioned several times by both the Public Prosecutor’s Office (MP) and the prosecutor’s assistant and defense lawyers.
The first to testify was civil police officer Tiago Vaz de Souza, followed by Alexsander Felipe Matos Mendes, known as Luan, and Wagner Andrade Pimenta, known as Misael, Flordelis’ affective sons. Misael asked to speak by videoconference.
Also on trial are Flordelis’ biological daughter, Simone dos Santos Rodrigues, and affective sons André Luiz de Oliveira and Marzy Teixeira da Silva. The three are charged with triple qualified homicide, attempted murder and armed criminal association. According to the indictment, the attempted murder against Pastor Anderson occurred in a continuous manner with the addition of poison to the victim’s food and drink.
The last defendant in the trial is Flordelis’ granddaughter, Rayane dos Santos Oliveira, accused of triple aggravated homicide and armed criminal association. Anderson was shot dead upon arriving home on the night of June 16, 2019. At first, Flordelis argued that it was an attempted robbery, but investigations proved that it was a homicide.
