During the last session of the Monitoring Committee of Quellaveco (CMQ) held last Friday in the city of Ilo, Anglo American reported that the committed social contribution of S/ 350 million for the construction stage of this project has already been fully made available to the Moquegua Development Fund (FDM) .
He indicated that to this are added the S / 100 million that Anglo American programmed for its operation stage, but that in 2019 it advanced to execute works that boost the regional economy, also serving to attend to the health emergency due to the COVID-19 pandemic. .
This total contribution of S/ 450 million was delivered progressively to finance works and projects with a regional impact, such as the Chilota-Chincune water system, which will expand the agricultural frontier by 1,750 hectares of crops.
Likewise, the strengthening of the public health system, the construction of the Biological Control Center that will improve the productive conditions of 35,000 farmers, the transformation of the José Carlos Mariátegui Higher Technological Institute into the first Center of Excellence at the national level, a goal that is close to attain.
In addition, the expansion of the Vizcachas dam that makes part of the region’s water reserve available to agriculture and the population, and various training programs that improved opportunities for local workers and businesses.
After completing the technical studies, the construction of a storage system in the Asana River with a capacity of 2.5 million cubic meters of water is scheduled to be made available to the local population and agriculture.
With this social contribution, more than 20 works have also been executed and programmed in the three provinces of the region, covering needs and reducing gaps in education, health, agriculture, availability of water for human consumption, road traffic and food assistance.
As recalled, at the Dialogue Table with Moquegua, held between 2011 and 2012, Anglo American undertook to make a contribution of S/ 1,000 million.
S/ 350 million were initially allocated for the construction stage of Quellaveco, however, in 2019, in response to various concerns of the population, the company agreed with the Moquegua authorities to advance S/ 100 million, increasing at that time the availability of means.
Currently, Quellaveco is in the operating stage and in this period, Anglo American will make a contribution of S/ 550 million with which works and projects will continue to be carried out through the Moquegua Development Fund, an entity made up of the Moquegua Regional Government. , provincial municipalities, representatives of civil society and the community in the area of influence.
