Costa Rica maintains high detection of new cases of Covid-19

In the last two weeks, this Central American nation has suffered an exponential growth in new positives caused by the Omicron variant of the virus, much more contagious than all the previous ones and that researchers predict between 10 and 15 cases per day.

The truth is that from an average of 450 newspapers in the last week of 2021 it went to just over a thousand in the first seven days of this year and to more than 2,500 between the 9th and 15th of this month.

According to the daily report (from Monday to Friday) of the Ministry of Health, with these new confirmed cases, Costa Rica adds 620,587 infected in just over 22 months of the pandemic, since the virus arrived here on March 6, 2020.

He specifies that of the total new cases this Monday, 76 were due to an epidemiological link (cohabiting with a person confirmed by PCR who has symptoms) and 2,749 by laboratory (PCR test).

It points out that of the total infected since March 2020, between zero and 113 years of age, 311 thousand 397 are women and 309 thousand 190 men; 545 thousand 914 Costa Ricans and 74 thousand 673 foreigners; 513 thousand 942 adults, 39 thousand five older adults, 67 thousand 480 minors and 159 ignored; they account for 565 thousand 370 recovered and 47 thousand 796 assets.

There are 355 hospitalized, of them 79 in intensive care, with between 18 and 100 years of age.

The report indicates that in the last three days 15 people have died, to accumulate 7,421 deaths since March 2020, of which 2,887 are women and 4,534 men, with an age range of zero to 103 years. By age, three thousand 163 are adults, four thousand 232 older adults, 25 minors, and one among the ignored.

In Costa Rica, they consider ignored “people who do not have the data and it is not found in the Civil Registry. Data may change as a result of the investigation.
