For the morning of this Tuesday, the Cotohuisa sector in the so-called Southern Mining Corridor, which had been blocked since last Monday, woke up free, giving way to the encapsulated of the different miners who make their way through this area of Espinar ( Cuzco).

This part of the road corridor had been blocked by residents of Espinar, who demand the immediate and cash delivery of a ‘bonus’ of two thousand soleswith the money from the Framework Agreement between the Antapaccay mining company and the province of Espinar.

According to statements by Fredy Llaique, secretary of the Espinar Fighting Committee, the protesters agreed to give the government a ‘truce’, in order to hold a meeting with the provincial authorities. and see what solutions they propose for the demands they make.

This meeting will take place at noon this Tuesday in the central square of Espinar, where it will be decided if the demonstration becomes an indefinite strike and therefore the southern mining corridor is blocked for a long time.

Earlier, the mayor of Espinar, Lolo Arenas, who does not agree with this demonstration, mentioned that the residents they only try to blackmail the mining companies and the authorities on duty, and that this protest has not had a greater call.

These statements were taken badly by the protesters, who will ask the mayor of the area to retract and support them in their demands, otherwise they will turn their stoppage into an indefinite strike.

In addition to the ‘bonus’ of two thousand soles, another of the residents’ claims is against the Coroccohuayco Integration Project, for which they ask for a new survey of social license, in addition to demanding the reformulation of the Framework Agreement between the province of Espinar and the Antapaccay mining company.

The community members have mentioned that they expect a visit from the President of the Republic himself, Pedro Castillo, together with his premier and Ministers of Energy and Mines, Housing, Sanitation and Transportation.

FACT:

– The delivery of this ‘solidarity bonus’ for the residents of Espinar, has already been approved by the Management Committee, however the residents demand the use of the 45 million soles that the Framework Agreement saves plus an advance of 35 million that they ask the mining company, in order to reach the 80 million they would need for the effective delivery to all the inhabitants of this Cusco province.
