Vlado Mirosevic: “To the populists and authoritarians I say that they will have a clear adversary in this president”

“Trust is exactly what is needed in a world, unfortunately, full of anger and permanent suspicion. I will take care of that trust, because without it there is no possibility of change governance.” This is how the deputy of the Liberal Party (PL) Vlado Mirosevic began his first speech as the new President of the Lower House.

Deputy Mirosevic acknowledged that running this House “will not be easy” and made a call to take care of democracy. “I will listen to all political sectors,” said the parliamentarian, adding that “ideological diversity is a positive fact to the extent that we treat each other well and with tolerance.”

The legislator said that ideological diversity “cannot mean that the debate and the reforms that benefit Chilean families are trapped by infinite disagreements or small interests.”

“People don’t want that kind of fight anymore,” said the president of the Chamber of Deputies and Deputies, along with offering “spaces for conversation.” In this sense, he called on the opposition to “have a constructive attitude.”

Summoning the opposition deputies, he proposed “let us immediately agree on the 30 bills that from left to right we need to dust off this Congress and approve. It is the agenda that matters to the people.” Regarding these projects, Vlado Mirosevic reiterated that they must all agree to see which ones have to be streamlined. “That’s what people expect from us.”

As a member of the ruling party, deputy Mirosevic pointed out that “to be successful in the (government) program, it is necessary to unlock and build majorities.”

And, reiterating that “we must act,” he maintained that concrete actions must be taken with respect to delinquency and organized crime. Under that slogan, in line with La Moneda, he proposed “a national agreement on security, because when they assault you they don’t ask you if you are from the left or the right, so let’s take advantage of things where we can agree and streamline the legislative agenda.”

Without a doubt, Mirosevic concluded, regarding other issues, “we are going to have differences.” For example, on the subject of pensions. “For us, the pension system failed. It has not paid decent pensions for all these years. Therefore, the AFPs are no longer involved in this reform. And others will defend the old system and that is fine, it is legitimate, we will have differences and it is good discuss it”.

“Faced with a complex scenario, there is a risk that the country will succumb to demagogic temptation,” declared the head of the Lower House, explaining that “there are leaders who have no problem making false promises, which are popular but difficult to fulfill, to only to convince the people and turn it into an instrument of their political ambition”.

“We must be able to isolate those who want to play with the wishes of the people. To the populists and authoritarians, I say that they will have a clear adversary in this president,” deputy Vlado Mirosevic finally sentenced, along with thanking the Christian Democracy (DC ) and the People’s Party (PDG) for “honoring their word and respecting the agreement”

“If mistrust and suspicion wins, there are no possible changes. And everything will remain the same,” he stressed.

Deputy Mirosevic also publicly thanked the Communist Party (PC), after the withdrawal of Karol Cariola’s candidacy to preside over the Chamber. This “allowed us to unlock the situation we were in. And it’s not fair that some people can’t be here because of their ideas.”
