At least a dozen tourism sectors continue to be hit by the Covid-19 pandemic and its different variants, as is now the case with the omicron. Tourism agencies, airlines, hotels, gastronomy, artisans, among others, regret that they cannot be reactivated and that, on the contrary, more businesses are closed.
“Tourism is a sector that is quite vulnerable and today we are seeing it with these new strains that are manifesting and what they cause is that the sector has a contraction in travel, whether outgoing or receptive,” said the president of the Bolivian Association of Travel and Tourism Agencies (Abavyt) Marco Mercado, according to the special Unitel report.
The president of the Gastronomic Chamber of Santa Cruz, Fernando Medina, said that Bolivia, in addition to having landscapes, is also visited for its gastronomy, but it is a sector that is contracting and this causes unemployment.

“30% of the national gastronomy has closed its doors, many sources of employment have been lost and those will no longer be recovered,” lamented the president of the Santa Cruz Gastronomic Chamber, Fernando Medina.
International air and ground transportation was also impacted and hit by the coronavirus.
“We considered that this was going to improve in 2022, but unfortunately we are seeing that it is going to be complicated with the level of infections,” said the general manager of the Airline Association (ALA), Yanela Zarate.
Meanwhile, the general manager of the Bolivian Hotel Chamber, Luis Ampuero, calculated that 30% of the associated companies have closed due to lack of guests who require their services.
