PCV warns the government: "If you don't back down there will be a strike in this country"

During an act that took place last Sunday, Oscar Figuera was ratified as general secretary of the Communist Party of Venezuela

In the early hours of Sunday, November 6, the new Central Committee of the Communist Party of Venezuela (PCV) was elected with a composition of 22 women and 42 men; 22 of its members are new members, which represents a renewal rate of 35.48%.

During the political act, the new Central Committee of the Communist Party of Venezuela was elected, in which Figuera was ratified as general secretary of the PCV and Perfecto Abreu Nieves as president of the PCV.

“We have assessed that the XVI National Congress was a total success,” Figuera said during a press conference from the Central Committee headquarters in Caracas. “This campaign was joined by one or another former member of the Communist Party of Venezuela who believed that from outside they could determine the course of the Party’s policy and that has never been the case,” he added.

He stressed that “the PCV is an autonomous and independent organization, Marxist-Leninist, which draws on the historical struggle of our people and on the emancipatory thought of Simón Bolívar.”

“This was a Unity Congress that strengthened the mystique that we made with great sacrifices and with the immense contribution of the militancy. Where it was up to all of us to work to achieve a resounding victory”, he highlighted.

The PCV leadership described the public installation of the Congress as “a demonstration of proletarian internationalism and international solidarity.”

Delegations from four continents were present: Colombian Communist Party, Communist Party of Greece, Communist Party of Mexico, Communist Party of the Peoples of Spain, Palestinian Communist Party, Portuguese Communist Party, British Communist Party, Front for the Liberation of the People of Sri Lanka , Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine and the People’s Party of Panama.

Diplomatic delegations from the Syrian Arab Republic, the People’s Republic of China and the Socialist Republic of Vietnam also attended.
