President Maduro meets with Emmanuel Macron at COP27

President Nicolás Maduro Moros holds a meeting this Monday with his French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron. The rapprochement takes place in the midst of the 27th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP27), in an effort to normalize bilateral relations, a note from Presidential Press.

At the meeting, both leaders discussed the bilateral relationship between Venezuela and France, as well as actions to combat climate change.

Regarding the efforts to counteract the effects of the climate emergency, President Maduro emphasized that he will expose the need to accelerate the steps to comply with the agreements signed in the past.

For his part, in a coincident position, the president Emmanuel Macron He pointed out that he will ratify the commitments made by France in the Paris Agreement (2015) to face climate change, as well as in the Gasglow Pact (2021) to support developing countries.

The will to reestablish friendly alliances was cemented on July 28, 2022, when the Venezuela-France Parliamentary Friendship Group paid tribute to promoting the reestablishment of political and diplomatic relations, under the principles of sovereignty and mutual respect.

The friendly ties between Venezuela and France are rooted in the figure of General Francisco de Miranda, hero of independence and his participation in the French Revolution; as well as in the visits of the Liberator Simón Bolívar to Paris and Amiens between 1801 and 1806.

In the context of High Level Segment of COP27, the President Nicolas Maduro He has held bilateral meetings with the Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda, Gaston Browne, and the President of the Republic of Suriname, Chan Santokhi.

Spirit of Chávez alive at COP27

Earlier this Monday, in the midst of the dynamics of the COP27 that is taking place in Egypt, President Nicolás Maduro highlighted through his account on the social network Twitter, that the spirit of Commander Hugo Chávez is more alive than ever in this summit.

“The chavez spirit today it is more alive than ever, at the 27th Conference on Climate Change. It is time to take concrete actions in order to safeguard, protect and guarantee the continuity of human life and natural diversity on earth”, said the president from the city of Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt.
