Cuba aspires to greater tourism growth by 2030

Cuba aspires, by 2030, to increase its hotel capacity to 95,000 rooms and exceed six million visitors, said Juan Carlos García Granda, Cuban Minister of Tourism.

During a meeting with Spanish businessmen, as a prelude to the International Tourism Fair (Fitur) in Madrid, scheduled for January 19-23, García Granda presented business opportunities in Cuban territory and promoted foreign investment projects on the island.

“A meeting with Spanish businessmen is taking place today to present new business opportunities in Cuba and promote foreign investment projects on the island,” he posted on Twitter.

According to the Cuba.cu portal, the minister exchanged with representatives of different firms in the sector in Spain, and detailed ideas to increase the real estate sphere, associated with golf courses and marinas.

The head of the Cuban Ministry of Tourism mentioned other projects in Artemisa, Pinar del Río, Holguín, Varadero, Matanzas and Havana.

Regarding the upcoming celebration of Fitur 2022, the Cuban minister held a meeting with Zurab Pololikashvili, secretary general of the World Tourism Organization, to whom he informed about the plans to reactivate the tourism sector in Cuba.

He stressed that the tight economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States, intensified during the Donald Trump administration, has hindered the development of tourism in Cuba, in addition to the problems generated by the current pandemic.

Pololikashvili, on his Twitter account, highlighted the meeting with García Granda and expressed his conviction that Cuba’s participation in FITUR 2022 will be a success.

“Within the framework of @FITUR_madrid, I am meeting with the Minister of Tourism of Cuba @JuannCarlosGG. After informing me about the plans to reactivate tourism in this first-rate destination, I am convinced that Cuba’s participation in #FITUR2022 will be a success”, refers the tweet.

According to the organizers, the 42nd edition of Fitur will bring together some 90,000 people, representing almost 7,000 companies and 107 countries, at the Ifema site in the Spanish capital.
