The technical table that will define the date of the Population and Housing Census will start work this saturday morning, ratified the Deputy Minister of Autonomies, Álvaro Ruiz, from Trinidad. For this, the authorities of the municipal and departmental governments and of the country’s public universities must certify their technical representations. Similarly, representatives of international organizations will participate.
“This technical table would have to be the definitive one because there is no more time”, Ruiz ruled, who also indicated that, although the date of the consultation is important, “it is more important that the census be built by consensus,” and suggested: “let’s not get bogged down.”
“What has the government said?: if it is technically proven, if there is viability, there is no problem”expressed the deputy minister regarding the proposal to carry out the census in 2023. Of course, he also indicated that, if it is not technically feasible, it must be accepted that it be carried out in 2024.
consulted Regarding the Santa Cruz proposal, Ruiz stated that there are three: that of the Mayor’s Office (December 2023), that of the Inter-institutional Committee (October 2023) and that of Amdecruz (February-March 2024).
“They have only raised it, in short; we do not really know the details of the proposal, that it is very important to know. And that is why (this meeting) has been established,” Ruiz said, regarding the Inter-institutional Committee’s proposal.
He also noted that the first proposal was to carry out the census in June 2023, which was later changed to October and that this Friday, the possibility was even opened to November.
“What is it that we had proposed: from the streets to the table; that is defined in the technical table; the effort that does not go to the streets or to confrontation, that we do not share it; wherever it comes from, violence is not good. That they go to the technical tables and in them, with arguments, define (the date)”, he expressed conciliatory.
Regarding the work modality of the technical table, Ruiz pointed out that the different proposals will be announced and that the international organizations will follow up on the proposals, which will be analyzed to reach an agreement.
