Havana Film Festival of New York honors outstanding figures of Cuban cinema

The 22nd edition of Havana film-festival of New York, in USApays homage to outstanding figures of the cuban cinemawith the projection of films marked by his talent.

Among the activities scheduled for the event is the posthumous tribute to the filmmaker Rigoberto López, who left his mark on more than thirty audiovisuals, including the film The oldestwhich appears in the official selection of the event, according to a report from the agency Latin Press (PL).

Released after the death of its director, the feature film proposes an approach to the life of the Cuban hero Ignacio Agramonte (1841-1873), one of the most outstanding figures of the independence struggles on the Caribbean island.

The medium recalls that during the filming process, López specified that, although the film contains some elements of fiction, it is based on historical research, from which real events of Agramonte’s childhood and youth are based and recreated.

Another of the honorees in this edition of the festival will be the recently deceased actor Alexis Diaz de Villegaswith the presentation of the tape Juan of the Dead«one of the deliveries in which he demonstrated his versatility, in addition to his prolific career in the field of stage art and television», reviews PL.

The film, directed by Alejandro Brugués, presents the actor as a man who begins to profit from hunting zombies, after they invade the streets of Havana, reviews the synopsis of the audiovisual.

In a horror comedy tone, the Cuban-Spanish production also features performances by Jazz Vilá, Jorge Molina, Eliecer Ramírez, Andrea Duro, Andros Perugorría and Elsa Camp, who gave life to the first film on the island related to the zombie universe, which won the Goya in the category of best foreign film.

Consistent with its foundational approach to Cuban film industrythe New York event proposes an approach to classics such as Portrait of Theresa (1979), by Pastor Vega; and the film made in homage to the filmmaker Bye daddyof his son Aaron Vega Granados.

Likewise, the titles complete the selection dark loves, by Gerardo Chijona; Tales of one more day, choral work coordinated by Fernando Pérez; The Documentary Peopleby Inti Herrera; Nicanor’s returnby Eduardo del Llano; How do you spell love, by Vega Granados; Y Geminiby Orlando Mora, highlights the information.

The festival program also includes the presentation of the book The story of the yellow envelopeby Iván Giroud, which will host a meeting with the academic and filmmaker Jerry Carlson, as well as master classes, retrospectives, round tables and film screenings, among other activities.
