The career diplomat Angie Martinez, Ambassador of the Dominican Republic in Jamaicawas the winner of the thirty-fifth installment of the Awards for Excellence of the Dominican Association of Exporters, in the category “Outstanding Ambassador 2021-2022”.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs had recently reported that exports from the Dominican Republic to Jamaica reached a historic peak, with a notable growth of 39% during the year 2021, far exceeding the export goal set.” He also indicated that greater growth was projected for the year 2022.
“The Dominican Association of Exporters recognizes Angie Shakira Martínez Tejera, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Dominican Republic in Jamaica. For her leadership and demonstrated commitment to dynamizing and continuing to strengthen commercial and diplomatic relations between the Dominican Republic and Jamaica. The 39% growth in exports to Jamaica during the year 2021, demonstrating the resilience of the Dominican export sector”.
Martínez affirmed that said numbers demonstrated how successful the New Vision of Dominican Foreign Policy, which raised among its priorities the relaunch of our relations with the Caribbean. In the same way, he expressed “thanks to an intense and exhaustive agenda, we have managed to boost bilateral relations with Jamaica to unprecedented levels, with trade and investment definitely being the main protagonist.”
The Dominican ambassador in Kingston received the award from Mr. Fernando González Nicolás, president of the Round Table of the Commonwealth Countries in the Dominican Republic; Luis Espinola, executive vice president of international business and private banking at Banco Popular Dominicano; and Jean Luis Rodríguez, executive director of the Port Authority of the Dominican Republic.
For 36 years, ADOEXPO has carried out these Export Excellence Awards in order to recognize the effort, talent and quality shown by the actors involved in the export process, defined as the “engine of growth, economic and social development of the Dominican Republic”. The members of the jury are made up of the Board of Directors of Adoexpo, as well as representatives of entities from the public, private and academic sectors, who guarantee transparency and legitimacy in meeting the criteria of the award rules.
