A balance delivered by the North Metropolitan Regional Ombudsman (DRMN) revealed that -between June and July 2021- it served more than 42 thousand people who faced criminal cases in the last year.
Specifically, the number reached 42,635 cases, which translates into a decrease of 19% compared to the previous period. The regional defender, Daniela Báez, explained that this is due to the end of the measures applied during the Covid-19 health alert, which included criminal sanctions against those who transgressed them.
Going into the figures of the balance, of the total number of people served by the North Metropolitan Ombudsman in the last 12 months, 83.3% correspond to men and 16.7% women. Along the same lines, 11.3% corresponded to migrants, which translated into an increase of 400 cases compared to last year.
Young people registered the entry of 1,684 cases, which is equivalent to 3.9% of the total figures provided. This means a marked decrease of 45% compared to those registered in the previous period (7.5%).
