The day for the 509th anniversary of the Villa San Salvador del Bayamo began today in that city and will last until November 5, the day Diego Velázquez established it in the year 1513.
The city’s historian, Ludín Fonseca García, delivered the opening remarks, followed by the panel Bayamo: Memories and Realities in the Casa de Natal museum of Carlos Manuel de Céspedes.
The cultural evening awaiting the anniversary of the second Cuban village will take place on the 4th at 10:30 at night in the historic Plaza de la Revolución.
On the 5th, the festivity will reach its climax with the greeting that the people will pay to their city by dedicating the ceremony of the flags. Next, there will be a solemn session of the Municipal Assembly of People’s Power.
The program foresees more than 70 activities that include academic spaces, book and handicraft expo-sales, presentations for children and dances in public squares.
In addition, there will be tours of sites of historical interest, concerts, inaugurations of Plastic Arts exhibitions, conferences in educational centers, and the journey of the sociocultural project Bayamo sounds in the neighborhood by communities of this city.
