MIAMI, United States. — The president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO), said this Thursday that an eventual lifting of the embargo imposed by the United States on the Cuban regime “would be a world party.”
In his usual morning press conference, the president assured that, if this happened, the same Saturday there would be a party in the Zócalo of the Mexican capital.
“There are conditions in the government of President Biden and that is why such that it be achieved today that the blockade is over. I already announced it, the Santanera would open dance in the Zócalo on Saturday, and we would talk so that those in sneakers would come and dance, ”said AMLO.
The president described the US embargo as an “infamy” and a “retrograde, medieval and inhumane measure.”
“I think it is an infamy what has been done against Cuba with the blockade of the United States government. It is a retrograde, medieval, inhumane measure, because it is not possible to further isolate a country like Cuba or any other country in the world, no one has the right to act as the world government, no one,” AMLO added.
According to the Mexican president, the embargo “is a clear violation of human rights because there may be political, ideological problems.”
“And the damage to the population, the damage to the people? Why do those who live in a country that has decided to maintain a political system according to their decisions have to suffer, suffer? Why affect your people?” he expressed.
This Thursday, the majority of United Nations member states voted against the maintenance of the embargo in the non-binding scrutiny that is carried out annually at the headquarters of that organization.
Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez expressed today in New York that the damages accumulated in more than 60 years due to the embargo reach 154 thousand 217 million dollars, at current prices.
“What would Cuba be like today, if it had had those resources? What else could we have done? What would our economy be like? ”, Pointed out the high official of the regime in his intervention.
