Cubana de Aviación will carry out four flights per week to Isla de la Juventud

With an ATR model twin-engine plane, with capacity for 72 passengers, the Cubana de Aviación airline resumes its domestic flights between Havana and Isla de la Juventud. The news was received with relief by customers, who complain about the poor conditions of maritime transport between the Island and its special municipality, but are suspicious of the ship’s safety and distrust that it will be able to fulfill the itinerary.

To get to Isla de la Juventud, the second largest in the archipelago, Cubans board catamarans, but rust problems and other technical flaws in the boats complicate departures and punctuality. In addition, passengers complain about the uncomfortable seats, the poor gastronomic offer and the constant delays, in addition to the frequent cancellations due to tidal waves.

Domestic flights had been suspended due to lack of fuel, which forced Cubana de Aviación to cut its frequencies.

The Nueva Gerona Airport informed, through the social networks, that the airline will operate four weekly frequencies. There are flights scheduled for Monday, Wednesday and Saturday from Havana, at 12 pm, while the departure from Nueva Gerona will be at 1:45 pm

In addition, there will be a trip on Sundays, leaving the Cuban capital at 1:00 pm, to return at 2:45 in the afternoon.

The airport reported that a bus will be made available to users to transfer passengers to the air terminal in Havana, upon presentation of the ticket and that it will be managed by the Travelers agency.

The restart of flights occurs four months after the Government will announce in July with great fanfare the arrival of the ferry Perseverance to connect Batabanó, in the south of the province of Artemisa, with the town of Nueva Gerona.

The ship, whose cost is unknown beyond the fact that it meant a millionaire amount, according to the authorities, had to be first painted and reconditioned to adapt to Cuban regulations, but it is unknown if it has already started operations.
