Almost 55% of the energy consumed in October was from windmills

Of the 861 gigawatt-hours (GWh) that were consumed last month, 484 were from wind power (53.8%), hydro 301 GWh (33.5%), biomass 72 GWh (8%), solar 42 GWh ( 4.6%), thermal 0.5% GWh (0.06%).
In 2000, the first experimental wind turbine was installed in the Sierra de los Caracoles, and in 2007 the first commercial wind turbine was installed in Maldonado. Uruguay has a total of 43 wind farms that generate energy.
The Uruguayan Association of Private Generators of Uruguay (AUGPEE) has estimated that the savings in the electrical system from the incorporation of renewable sources such as wind and solar power is more than 744 million dollars in the period 2007-2019.
