Change that Petro wants for the Bogotá Metro and that the Chinese consortium is already studying

As anticipated weeks ago, and even since Petro came to the presidency, once again the modifications that the Bogota Metro and that according to voices from different sectors, it would cause new delays in the most important mobility project that has already started.

It is worth remembering that Gustavo Petro’s mayor’s office had made it known that the president insisted that the Metro de Bogotá was underground for which studies had already been carried out.

Now, under his government, it was announced that at a meeting this Wednesday between the president and the consortium Apca Transmitterin charge of the work, has requested that the section that crosses Avenida Caracas be underground.

According to Blu Radio, among the reasons given to defend that this section is not elevated, it appears that the ground is at risk on the eastern side due to the columns that would support the Metro, added to the risks in the traffic management plan for this sectortaking into account that the operation of TransMilenio must be maintained while the works are carried out.

Meanwhile, the Petro government has maintained that the section leading to Avenida Primero de Mayo would remain elevated, arguing that the ground in this part of the city is more stable.

How are the works going?

While the response of the Chinese consortium is known, according to the Metro company, there is currently a 16% progress in the works of the first line, which are being carried out in the Avenida 68, Avenida Ciudad de Cali, Avenida Caracas to the south and the first line of the Bogotá Metrowhich already has two fronts.

This first section will have 23.96 kilometres, 16 stations and it will be fully automatic. Additionally, 19 kilometers of bike paths will be built and the public space will be renovated.
