Nairo Quintana case: TAS rejected appeal and UCI sanction remains

The Court of Arbitration for Sport rejected this Thursday, November 3, the appeal filed by the Colombian cyclist Nairo Alexander Quintana after being sanctioned by the International Cycling Union.

Quintana was sanctioned after he was foundtraces of tramadol in two dried blood samples taken during the Tour de France.

The sports legal body based in Switzerland estimated, according to its statement, that the presence of tramadol in the blood of the 32-year-old climber, who finished sixth overall in the Tourwas enough to justify the sanction inflicted by the International Cycling Union on August 17.

In this way, the Colombian is kept disqualified from the ‘Grande Boucle’ and the UCI points earned were withdrawn.

It’s not doping

After the confirmation of the sanction, it was also confirmed that the offense committed by the Colombian is not considered doping, so he will be able to continue competing in the main international races.

At the time, tramadol was not considered a prohibited substance by the World Anti-Doping Agency. However, from the next one it will be part of said prohibited elements.

The future of Nairo Quintana is complicated
