After the statements issued by the vice president of the National Electoral Council (CNE), Enrique Márquez, where he denied the possibility of advancing the presidential elections, Diosdado Cabello rebuked him for limiting himself and respecting the figure of the highest electoral body in the country.
“I am a political actor and I am also a deputy so I can say what I want, on the other hand you cannot because you are before a body that you have to respect because it is also a collegiate body, but I understand that they send you to say that and you have to come out with an open mouth to say it, keep saying it, but they are acting badly and you are looking very bad,” said Cabello, addressing the righteous Márquez, whom he described as an opponent within the CNE.
“This Mr. Márquez came out to say that the Law says that the elections have to be in the last quarter of the year 2024, that the others were held in May because the Constituent Assembly was there, all this in response to what we said and why the didn’t say anything when the opposition said to advance the elections? Why didn’t he think of saying that when the opposition came out to say ‘we want elections now’? Because he is an opposition agent in the CNE”, he assured.
“We are ready”
On the possibility of early elections that has been envisioned by President Nicolás Maduro, he reiterated that the PSUV and its allied parties are ready to face the electoral contest at the time they are appointed.
“If the CNE says ‘the elections are on January 10, 2023’, we are ready,” he said, and considered that the statements of the righteous Márquez arise in the absence of an agreement by the opposition to promote a single candidate.
“I don’t know if you are ready, maybe that’s why you cry and then you expose yourself and appear as what you are; like an opponent doing the exercise of being an opponent within the CNE”, he insisted.
Both Picón’s statement and Cabello’s response came after President Maduro indicated in an act with the PSUV militancy that they were prepared for a new victory in 2024 “or sooner”, words that were seconded by the psuvista first vice president, who In his program Con el Mazo Dando, he questioned the absence of an opposition agreement to hold primaries and questioned what would happen if the elections were held before a process of choosing the opposition candidate.
