The UN Secretary General, António Guterres, welcomed the open dialogue between the governments of Colombia and Venezuela, which materialized on Tuesday, November 1 with the meeting between Colombian President Gustavo Petro and Nicolás Maduro.
In his daily press conference, the Secretary General’s spokesman, Stéphane Dujarric, said he had no information on the talks held by the two leaders, but in any case he gave his “warm welcome” to their celebration.

Dujarric specified that these conversations “are good for the countries, for the region and for the humanitarian situation,” in apparent reference to the transit of Venezuelans across the border with Colombia.
The exodus of nearly six million Venezuelans has had a profound effect on Colombia, which hosts 2.5 million refugees from that neighboring country, more than any other nation.
Precisely today the High Commissioner for Refugees, Filippo Grandi, praised Colombia’s generosity at the UN in welcoming all these Venezuelans and praised the way in which it is managing this crisis of historic magnitude on the continent.
