The Super League seeks dialogue with UEFA

The Super League will seek dialogue with UEFA and with the clubs that are reluctant to join the project, according to Bernd Reichart, CEO of the company A22 Sport Management, in charge of promoting the project.

“We have opposite positions, it is clear. But I think that dialogue is necessary precisely between different positions to find solutions », Reichart said on the « Einfach Lupfen » podcast of Real Madrid player Toni Kroos and his brother Felix.

“We are also seeking contact with other clubs, many of whom are reluctant to talk to us for fear of backlash,” he added.

Reichart assured that, since the first proposal on the Super League, much has been learned – for example in abandoning the idea of having permanent members and instead having a promotion and relegation system.

However, Reichart was convinced that there are issues that were at the origin of the concept on which there is a consensus, beyond the clubs involved in the project.

“There is a consensus in the world of football that there are things that are wrong. We believe that European football is not exploiting its potential and that European club competitions should be organized by clubs in the same way as national leagues”, he assured.

“The clubs take all the risks and have nothing to say in their competitions. The supporters are supporters of clubs and not of Swiss-based institutions,” he added.

Among the problems Reichart pointed out is that the current financing system is under pressure, which was reinforced by the pandemic but also has structural reasons.

The second problem is the quality and attractiveness of the competition, in which in the group stage there are games in which nothing is played. “If you have a game where there is no game, and you can only get a sixth of your regular viewers to the TV, you have a problem,” he said.

Reichart said he hopes the resistance from supporters, especially in England, will give way and believes it was primarily related to the initial project and not the one now being considered.

“What we want is to make football more attractive and for the clubs to take the organization of the competitions into their hands,” he assured. EFE
