The Minister of Public Works and Communications, Deligne Ascención, reported this Wednesday afternoon that he delivered this Wednesday the refurbished Juan Pablo Duarte Bridgeto which changes were made in the expansive joints, total asphalting, maintenance of its railings and other works.
The bridge, which connects the National District with the Santo Domingo Este municipality, was also subjected to resurfacing of the asphalt layer, horizontal and vertical signage, as well as maintenance of its railings.
According to Ministry of Public Worksthe investment of the works was around 60 million pesos and it is estimated that it will have an increased useful life of 20 years.
Speaking at a press conference, held at the western head of the bridge, Minister Ascención explained that the repair of the structure was necessary, due to the accumulated deterioration in recent years.
“Today we are formally delivering to all citizens the conclusion of these works that consisted of the total removal of the boards of the Juan Pablo Duarte Bridgethe rolling layer and the conditioning of its railings, as well as its signage, signage that will be completed with the placement of studs and thermoplastic paint,” said the official.
He affirmed that an entire infrastructure is being delivered with maintenance, because it will contribute not only to speeding up traffic on these roads, but also to guarantee and extend the useful life of one of the main road infrastructures in the Dominican Republic.
He added that the ministry and the different institutions linked to roads adopted a series of measures in order to guarantee the fluidity of vehicular traffic over the bridge, a structure that is used daily by more than 35,000 vehicles between 6:00 a.m. and 8:00 at night.
