Quintana Roo and Campeche will suspend classes in six municipalities due to hurricane “Lisa”

While in Campeche classes will be suspended in schools in the municipalities of Calakmul and Hopelchén.

“In accordance with the provisions of the State Civil Protection Council, as a preventive measure against the possible rains forecast due to the passage of Hurricane Lisa, to safeguard the safety of students and educational personnel, it has been decided to suspend school work this Thursday, November 3 in the municipalities of Calakmul and Hopelchén,” the Campeche Secretary of Education (Seduc) reported in a statement.

According to the National Meteorological Service (SMN), in the next few hours, Hurricane “Lisa” will cause heavy rains in Campeche, Chiapas and Quintana Roo, as well as very heavy rains in Tabasco and Yucatan.

The center of the hurricane is located 10 kilometers south of Belize, and 120 kilometers south of Chetumal, Quintana Roo.

“The rains generated by this system could cause landslides, increased levels of rivers and streams, overflows and floods in low-lying areas of the mentioned states, for which the population and maritime navigation are urged to heed the warnings and follow the indications of the state, municipal and Civil Protection authorities,” the agency reported.
