The Tigers give the Bulls a no-hitter

It was the tenth time that a match of this type took place in the local ball. Licey is the first team with ten wins

The Tigres del Licey launched the tenth no-hitter in the history of the autumn-winter baseball tournament by dominating the Toros del Este 2-0 in a match held at the Francisco Micheli Stadium in La Romana. It is the first game without hits or runs that has been launched since the 2020-2021 season, when the Bulls did the same with the Tigers 2-0.

It was the fourth game without hits or runs for the Tigers, who also became the first team to reach ten wins in the current campaign to continue as leaders of the standings of the tournament that is dedicated to the memory of Don Tomás Troncoso Cuesta.

The game was started by Lisalverto Bonilla, who only worked one inning with a walk and two strikeouts. He was escorted by Elniery García, working five innings of seven fanned batters. He was followed by Arodys Vizcaíno (1.0), Jean Carlos Mejía (1.0) and Jairo Asencio (1.0).

Luis Medina opened the game for the Bulls with two innings of two hits and six strikeouts. He was escorted by Mike Fiers (2.0), Emailin Montilla (0.2), Hansel Rodríguez (0.1), Jasseel de la Cruz (1.0), Jeremy Beasley (1.0) and Tim Peterson (1.0).

The first no-hitter was thrown by Diomedes Olivo (Licey) against Esgido, on May 29, 1954 at La Normal. The second Stan Williams (Chosen) against the Eagles, on November 20, 1959 at the Cibao Stadium. The third and the first combined between Larry Gowell and Santos Alcalá (Selected) on October 28, 1974 against the Eagles at the Cibao stadium.

The fourth occurred with Hipólito Pichardo, Carlos Maldonado and Aguedo Vásquez (Azucareros del Este), on December 3, 1990 against the Águilas.

The fifth time was in 1991 when the Tigers beat the Stars. In 1999, history repeated itself when the Pollos del Cibao left the Eagles without hits or runs.

In 2008, in a Round Robin, the Tigers achieved their seventh no-hitter. He succeeded before the Stars. Six years later, the eighth from the Lions to the Tigers took place. The ninth Domingo Germán, Jenrry Mejía, Pedro Payano, Anthony Gose, Tim Peter, of the Toros, combined to blank the blues on November 16, 2020. The only two runs of the Tigers came, the first product off a home run by Jair Camargo in the fifth inning, while the second round was on a sacrifice fly by Trenton Brooks in the ninth. The victory went to Garcia (1-0), while the loss fell to starter Mike Fiers (0-1). Asencio earned his third save of the tournament.

The next commitment of the Tigres will be today when they visit the Cibao Giants at the Julián Javier Stadium, in a game scheduled for 7:00 at night.

Meanwhile, the Bulls receive the Eagles at 7:30 at night at the Francisco Micheli Stadium in La Romana.

Lions outnumber Eagles

The Lions of the Chosen left the Águilas Cibaeñas on the field by beating them 4-3 in a match held at the Quisqueya Stadium.

Pedro Severino had the RBI hit, which drove in Sandro Fabián, who started the 12th inning as a ghost runner. He then advanced to third on Eddys Leonard’s sacrifice bunt.

The victory went to Cristopher Molina (2-1), while the defeat fell to Rodrigo Benoit (1-1). It was the third loss in a row for the Eagles, who drop to third place in the tournament with 8-6. Meanwhile, for the Lions it was their fifth victory against nine setbacks.
The Bulls, with a new leader

The Bulls announced the hiring of the well-known Andy Barkett as the new manager of the club, replacing the American Pat Listach.

Barkett will arrive in the country next Wednesday, in time to direct the match at the Corral against the Águilas Cibaeñas.
