Laura Raffo she has not won any popularly elected position: she failed to charm the majority of Montevideo into giving her the honor of being mayor of Montevideo and the Frente Amplio was imposed on her Carolina Cossé.
However, she is constantly seen speaking in the press with weekly appearances on television channels and written media, while maintaining a lively activity on her social networks and even visiting state companies as if she were a delegate of something. Since she was not elected mayor, was appointed president of the Montevideo Department of the National Party, and is constantly chosen as spokesperson even for the multicolored caucus of the Departmental Board of Montevideo.
She was given the lead of the negotiation for the IDB loan on behalf of the coalitionists -again, without even being a departmental legislator-, and this gave her a lot of media exposure.
In recent days it has transpired that from the PN they are trying to sneak her to be a candidate in the 2024 elections, as published this Sunday by the newspaper The country. They would place her in the internal elections along with two other names that sound strong: the Vice President of the Republic, Beatriz Argimón, and the Secretary of the Presidency, Álvaro Delgado.
Small clusters of Raffo’s followers have begun to form on social networks, asking for their name to be on the internal ballot. The account @Lauraraffo2024 was created, which said in its description that it was an “authorized account”. According to the newspaper, in a few hours it gathered a couple of thousand followers, among whom were some militants and leaders of the herrerismo, but half a week later it was eliminated when it would have reached the ears of Raffo herself.
A legislator stated that she is “a token” of the entire PN because she is “a woman loved by all. And for now it does not arouse jealousy.
From within her environment, sources told the media that the former candidate continues to focus on her “tasks” for Montevideo and on occupying the position that Luis Lacalle Pou gave her in the National Party.
Additionally, the right-wing economist and politician is focused on making militancy and making a lot of noise in favor of the Urgent Consideration Law, with a view to the referendum on March 27.
“It would be very interesting to see how the possible presidential candidates evolve towards 2024: Daniel Salinas, Álvaro Delgado, Laura Raffo, Pedro Bordaberry and others in the Coalition, Yamandú Orsi, Carolina Cosse and others in the Broad Front. These are the measurements of greatest interest”, commented on Twitter the doctor in Social Sciences, Luis Costa Bonino.
Other accounts such as @delgado24_, supposedly in favor of Álvaro Delgado, were created in recent days and seek to add some content and interactions on Twitter.
