U.S. Embassy in Cuba Increases Immigrant Visa Medical Examination Capacity

Embajada de Estados Unidos en Cuba, La Habana

MIAMI, United States. — The United States Embassy in Cuba reported today on the increased capacity to complete the medical examinations of those who process immigrant visas.

“The United States Embassy in Cuba announces that we have quadrupled our capacity to complete immigrant visa medical exams. We will expand our consular services even further in 2023 to facilitate safe and legal migration,” said the diplomatic headquarters in social networks.

The medical examination constitutes one of the rigorous requirements of those who wish to obtain an immigrant visa.

According to the US Department of State, “medical eligibility is a requirement of INA Sections 212(a) and 221(d)”, and failure to provide the required information can lead to “immigrant visa delays or denials”. .

In September, the United States Embassy in Cuba announced that it would resume all immigrant visa services on the island and that it would accelerate the processing of Cuban family reunification in 2023.

Restoring those services will eliminate the need for Cubans applying for immigrant visas in family preference categories to travel out to Georgetown, Guyana, for their interviews.

On that occasion, the diplomatic headquarters explained that the US Embassy in Georgetown would continue to process visa applications for Cuban immigrants in the family preference categories until processing resumes in Havana in early 2023.

It should be noted that the United States government complied with the delivery of 20,000 immigrant visas in the recently ended fiscal year 2022.

At the end of August, the State Department’s Office of Consular Affairs counted 19,743 visas for Cuban applicants, a figure that rose to 20,000 at the end of September.
