Godín leads Uruguay's first training session

A group of soccer players from the Uruguay national team, led by captain Diego Godín, trained this Monday under the orders of coach Diego Alonso.

This was reported by the Uruguayan Football Association on its social networks, where it showed the work carried out by the players at the Celeste Complex, located on the outskirts of Montevideo. At the moment, according to what the EFE Agency learned, the athletes were invited, so they are not obliged to train there together with the coaching staff.

Despite this, several soccer players went to work, as did the members of the youth team that Alonso called to practice together with those reserved for the World Cup that will be played between November 20 and December 18.

Some of those who were there were goalkeepers Guillermo de Amores, Sebastián Sosa and Santigo Mele; the defenders Godín and Martín Cáceres; midfielders César Araújo, Maximiliano Araújo, Facundo Torres and Nicolás de la Cruz; in addition to the attacker Thiago Borbas.

On October 21, Alonso presented the list of 55 reserved for the Qatar World Cup, which next week will be reduced to the 26 players who will attend the event. In it appear 48 athletes who defend foreign teams and seven who play for Uruguayan clubs.

Some of them are Ronald Araujo, Federico Valverde, Rodrigo Bentancur, Luis Suárez, Edinson Cavani and Darwin Núñez. At the 2022 Qatar World Cup, Uruguay will be in Group H along with Portugal, Ghana and South Korea. La Celeste will debut on November 24 against the Asians, will face the Europeans on the 28th of the same month and will close their participation in the group facing the Africans four days later.
