Elected governor of Sergipe with 51.7% of valid votes in the second round, Fábio Mitidieri (PSD) cited encouraging job creation, income transfer and improving public health as some of the main challenges his team will face from of January of the next year.
“The mission is arduous. [Há] many people waiting for a new era in politics, which is what we committed to doing alongside the friends and allies who helped us get here”, said Mitidieri shortly after the Electoral Court confirmed his victory against PT candidate Rogério Oak.
Two-term federal deputy and former councilor in Aracaju, the 45-year-old administrator won just over 623,800 votes and will replace Belivaldo Chagas, also from the PSD, who, being in his second term, was unable to run. to reelection. Rogério Carvalho, from the PT, received 582,940 votes, or 48.3% of the valid votes. In the first round, Carvalho reached 44.70% of the valid votes, finishing in first place ahead of Mitidieri.
In his first interview as governor-elect, Mitidieri thanked his voters for their trust, and assured that he will govern for the entire Sergipe population. He said that he will respectfully dialogue with the government team of the future president of the Republic, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
“We will have to talk. As I always said, whoever wins for President of the Republic I will knock on the door and work. Sergipe is above ideologies, above anything. And my commitment to the people is to work for Sergipe. Today, I am grateful to those who voted for me, but I will be governor of all. Of those who voted for me and those who didn’t. Ideology is over now at 5pm [deste domingo, quando se encerrou a eleição]. Now comes the work”.
