Members of the 22nd Zone Command of the National Guard (GNB) seized seventy-seven marijuana packages in the Santa Elena de Arenales sector of Mérida state, according to military sources.
The drug packages, with a gross weight of seventy-seven and two hundred and fifty kilograms, were hidden inside plastic baskets with yucca, which were transported in an F-350 truck from Mérida to Caracas. But the vehicle was detained by GNB agents, who were carrying out patrol tasks in the aforementioned area, according to the military report.
The driver, Luis Antonio Villegas Guillén, was immediately arrested at the scene and placed under the order of the Public Ministry on charges of illicit drug trafficking. Additionally, he was identified as a member of the Tancol (Colombian Armed Drug Trafficking Terrorists), according to investigations by the military component.
