An invitation to taste Korean food in the streets of Buenos Aires

An invitation to try the best Korean cuisine.


The third edition of the Korean fast food market, Hansang Street K-Food Market, will be held this Sunday at Plaza Sicilia (Av. Sarmiento and Av. Libertador, in the Buenos Aires neighborhood of Palermo) from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. . There you can taste traditional food of that origin in more than 20 stalls and enjoy Korean Hanguk Chum dance shows, the presence of the Toyo Korean school, Pungmul performance, cooking classes and writing the Korean alphabet in the event thought as a ” sopung”, a typical Korean picnic.

When it comes to delving into the characteristic flavors of the cuisine of that Asian country, the organizers of the Hansang Korean Gastronomic Civil Association propose, in addition to kimchi (fermentation of vegetables based on cabbage and turnip), toppoki (“gnocchi” Korean dishes based on rice with spicy sauce), mandu (Korean dumplings), or bowls of japchae (sweet potato noodles), among many other options. But they bet that the gimpbap will be the star of this edition. It is a kind of of maki-sushi that is made with sesame oil instead of vinegared rice and instead of raw fish it has vegetables, proteins and dressings such as sausage, ham, mayonnaise, cheese and egg.

“We are very proud and happy to be able to continue spreading the flavors of hansik (Korean cuisine) with all Argentines. We are convinced that this culinary exchange between the two cultures brings the nations closer together, within the framework of 60 years of bilateral relations between the two countries”, says Sandra Lee, head of the Hansang Civil Association, who specified that on November 20 the Buenos Aires Celebrates Korea and on the 22nd, Kimchi Day.
