Another six stations were closed by order of Conatel on #28Oct, denounced the SNTP

The SNTP reported that three stations in Zulia; another three in Táchira and one in Carabobo were forced to close transmissions by Conatel. So far in 2022, according to the account of the union, there are 86 radio stations closed in the country

The National Union of Press Workers (SNTP) denounced this Saturday, October 29, the closure of six stations in three states of the country during the afternoon of Friday 28, which brings the count made to 86 by this organization on the forced removal of radio stations from the air so far in 2022.

Via Twitter, the SNTP indicated that in Ciudad Ojeda, in Zulia, the radio stations Melodica 92.3 FM, Mágica 93.3 FM and Ke Buena 101.1 FM were closed on instructions from Conatel. Yet the NGO Public Space had denounced this eventuality caused by Conatel’s decision.

While in Táchira, the stations Platinium 88.1 FM, Innovation Panamericana Stereo 98.3 FM and Alegría 104.9 FM were ordered off the air; the three located in the Pan-American municipality of the Andean entity.

There was also information about the alleged “administrative failure” in the request to renew the concession for the radio station Éxitos 99.1 FM in Valencia, Carabobo state.

The NGO Espacio Público issued a statement in which he rejects, along with 37 other organizations that support the pronouncement, the “opaque and arbitrary” management by Conatel, which in recent months has generated the “massive” suspension of radio stations in several states of the country.

With the provisions, some by legal means and others by informal means, Venezuelans are deprived of spaces that disseminate content. In many cases, Conatel closes outlets that have been running for years.

«Conatel’s logic causes serious damage, which is the indefinite suspension of transmissions to specify, according to the entity, the status update. Going out of business is not strictly necessary to bring the regulation up to date; especially if the responsibility for this legal vacuum is attributable to the State for not responding with due diligence, both to new applications and to demands for updating the concessions by the broadcasters”, says the text.

Therefore, they ask the State to adjust the laws and practices regarding human rights so that freedom of expression is fully guaranteed; that there is transparency on the part of Conatel and that “the principles of plurality, diversity and free circulation of content” can be protected and guaranteed.
