Joy in Caldas for the beatification of Sister Ana Julia today in Medellín

This Saturday, October 29 at 10 in the morning, will be the beatification ceremony of Caldense mother María Berenice Duque. The event will take place in Medellin and will be presided over by Cardinal Marcello Semerarodelegate of Pope Francis for the religious celebration.

The nun María Berenice Duque was born in Salamina on August 14, 1898. At the age of 17, she entered the convent of the Presentation, later in 1943 she started the Foundation of the Religious Community of the Little Sisters of the Annunciation with the support of the Church. He died on July 25, 1993 in Medellín.

The Archbishop of Medellín, Monsignor Ricardo Tobón Restrepo, recalled that Pope Francis authorized that the beatification ceremony of Mother María Berenice Duque Hencker, be fulfilled this Saturday October 29 in the capital of the department of Antioquia.

In the letter, Monsignor Tobón Restrepo made it clear that the Supreme Pontiff appointed Sister María Berenice, Mr. Cardinal Marcello Semeraro, Prefect of the Dicastery for the Cause of Saints.

Mother Ana Julia, the name she adopted to advance her missionary work, was born in Salamina, Caldas and died in Medellín, a city where there is a museum in her memory. His work was characterized by service to the poor and the social promotion of children, youth and women, without distinction of race or social status, according to the biography presented by the museum.

The Archbishop of Manizales, José Miguel Gómez Rodrígueztold this medium that the Catholic Church of the country and especially that of Caldas receives with immense joy the beatification that Pope Francis will do to the nun María Berenice Duque, who was born in the north of this department.

“I join all those who celebrate today the news about the prompt beatification of Mother Berenice Duque Hencker, founder of The Little Sisters of the Annunciation and whose virtues we can all imitate,” he said. Monsignor Gómez Rodríguez.

The highest hierarch of the church in Caldas highlighted the social contribution of the congregation of the Little Sisters of the Annunciation that Sister María Berenice helped found and that today is in 15 countries.

“Mother Berenice showed us an intense love for the poor and for those who suffer, seeking for all of them the most appropriate solutions. His writings reveal a soul full of love of God and deep wisdom and it is worth getting to know it in such a way that I invite you all to join the celebrations”, added the Archbishop of Manizales.

In the department of Caldas and specifically in the municipality of Salamina, where she was born, there is rejoicing over the beatification of Sister Ana Julia in a ceremony that will take place from 10 in the morning in the Metropolitan Cathedral of Medellín.
