The Lakers fall for the fifth time online

Anthony Edwards scored 29 points last night, including 16 in the third period, and the Minnesota Timberwolves extended the lousy start to the season of the Los Angeles Lakers (0-5), who continued without a win, falling 111-102.

Rudy Gobert contributed to Minnesota’s cause with 22 points and 21 rebounds, while Karl Towns had 14 of his 21 points in the fourth quarter. Also for the Wolves, D’Angelo Russell had 11 points. Minnesota won back-to-back games for the first time this season, taking control of the game with an 11-4 run midway through the fourth quarter.

LeBron James scored 28 points for Los Angeles, which was without Anthony Davis because of a stiff back. Russell Westbrook came off the bench for the first time since his rookie season and had 18 points and eight fumbles off the boards.

Pacers prevail.

Tyrese Haliburton had 25 points and 12 assists, Myles Turner added 27 points and the Indiana Pacers beat the Washington Wizards 127-117. Lloyd Pierce, Pacers assistant, was responsible for the team because Rick Carlisle had previously scheduled an event for his daughter. Buddy Hield scored 25 points for Indiana, which led by 20 points in both the second and third quarters.

Indiana wasted little time getting away. A 22-2 run in the first quarter gave the Pacers a 30-15 lead. The game was 36-28 after a long 3-pointer by Kyle Kuzma when the buzzer sounded, but the Pacers didn’t slow down in the second quarter. A run of eight straight points made it 70-50, and Indiana went into the halftime break 75-60. A 3-pointer by Haliburton put Indiana ahead 80-60 early in the third before the Wizards got away.

Cleveland defeated Boston; Al had 12 points

Donovan Mitchell and Caris LeVert each scored 41 points, and the Cleveland Cavaliers rallied to beat the Boston Celtics 132-123. Cleveland trailed by as much as 15 points in the first two quarters and overcame a first half in which Boston scored 75 points. Al Horford had 12 points for the Celtics.
