The prominent former Cuban hammer throw athlete and coach Eladio Hernández died this Friday in Havana, according to official media on the island.
Eladio was a member of the national soccer team for years. athletics and won medals in Central American and Caribbean Gamesincluding gold in the 1990 Mexico edition, according to a note of the sports portal Hitwhich does not provide details on the cause of his death.
During his career as an athlete, Hernández was also a medalist in regional competitions and was titled at the 1994 Ibero-American Athletics Championships in Mar del Plata, in Argentina, adds the publication.
The media highlights that his most significant contributions came several years later, as coach of the hammer throw in the national team, especially directing the preparation of Yipsi Moreno, who until a few months ago he held the position of national commissioner of the discipline.

Under the orders of Eladio Hernández, the Camagüeyan hammer fighter was champion in the Olympic Games Beijing 2008 and won the title in three editions of the World athletics championship.
The auctioneers Aldenay Vasallo and Yunaika Crawford also reached stellar planes under the leadership of the experienced coach, who turned 59 years old last February.
