In this sense, the director of the El Clon bazaar, Evaristo González, told Coffee & Business that “Halloween went from being a holiday of a few to overcrowd in recent years”.
The executive also indicated that, while a few years ago this day belonged only to children, nowadays there are more and more young people and adults who consume products linked to Halloween. This event is largely explained by the themed events that are carried out on these dates for that type of public.
This expansion of niches caused Halloween sales to “increase year after year,” González pointed out. “Although the previous days are the ones that move the most, this year the sales of products linked to this festivity (party favors and candy store) increased by 12.3% compared to 2021 —González asserted— and doubled compared to the last five years.”
From the Mercado Libre sales platform they pointed out, for their part, that “In October ten times more costumes are sold than in a normal month”.
“For both costumes and treats, October is a peak sales monthand it is the most important for the category of costumes and the second most important for the sale of sweets (after Children’s Day) “, they elaborated from the site of e-commerce.
The cotillion trade Superfiestas, for its part, presents a great movement this Friday ahead of October 31. The sales “are moved”, they indicated from the store and pointed out that there is conformity with the performance of this year, although they preferred not to provide figures.

What Uruguayans buy on Halloween
According to data provided to Coffee & Business by Mercado Libre, the best-selling products in the cotillion category are villain harley quinn costumes (whose price starts at $1,290), the character Harry Potter (from $790 in its children’s version), from the superhero Spiderman (from $650 for children) and, this year’s great novelty, led masks (from $400).
As for candy products, the best sellers are being the candy packages of 500 grams or more (from $170), lollipops (about $250), or chocolates (about $280).
The costumes are the best selling items in El Clone of the cotillion category, with prices ranging from $329 to $1000 approximately. Second place goes to skins, with prices hovering around $50-$60.
As for the treats, the package made up of a typical plastic pumpkin with candies and lollipops ($ 29) is the best seller in the month. It is followed by the package of lollipops of 50 units at $50.
Witch hats ($70), pumpkins to collect candy ($200) and half-kilo packages of candy ($95) are other star products on these dates, they indicated from this chain.
From Superfiestas, they assured that the best-selling products in this Halloween edition are devil horns ($120), black angel wings ($550) and fake blood ($59).
Lastly, Mosca’s Marketing Manager, Damián Lachaga, explained that billing in the costume category “considerably increases sales during the week prior” to Halloween and, particularlyduring the three days prior to this festivity “the sale of costumes is doubled”. This item is showing a “sustained recovery of 20% per year” since the end of the coronavirus pandemic, added the executive. In Mosca, the cost of costumes ranges from $890 to $3,000.
